FAQs
Q. Who can access Lake Country Counselling Services?
A.We welcome anyone living in the vicinity of Lake Country including Kelowna, Vernon, Penticton and other communities in the Okanagan Valley. Some clients prefer seeing a counsellor who lives outside of their own community. Clients are often willing to travel from Kelowna to our office because of the short distance between these communities. For those living in areas outside of the Kelowna vicinity with time and distance restraints we also offer online-counselling via video conferencing.
Children under the age of 18 will require written parental consent to participate in counselling.
Some conditions will require the ongoing care of a psychologist or psychiatrist. If you have been diagnosed with a mental health condition, a counsellor may be a part of a collaborative process working together with doctors, psychiatrists and psychologists. Please consult your doctor to determine what is best for you.
Q. What is the role of a Professional Counsellor?
A.Professional Counsellors interact with clients using counselling skills which are proven to give predictable outcomes. Everything the counsellor says during the counselling session is based on ethical and recognized therapeutic methods that are effective in achieving beneficial results. The counsellor will help you explore thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that may be contributing to your problem. They will help you gain new insights and explore possibilities and opportunities. They will help you draw on your strengths and resources to achieve your goals.
Q. How many sessions will it take to help me with my concern?
A.The number of sessions can range widely depending on the problem. Sometimes one session will help you deal with a decision you need to make, other times 5 to 10 sessions will be necessary to reach your desired outcomes and on occasion long term psychotherapy may be required. A professional counsellor will work with you to help you achieve your goals within a realistic time frame.
Q.Will my insurance company reimburse me for counselling services?
A.A receipt will be issued upon payment of your counselling session which you can submit to your insurance agency for reimbursement. Blue Cross and some other insurance companies will reimburse you, but it is advisable to check with your individual provider before commencing services to ensure coverage.
